Takes you around the world

A brilliant, brillian film well worth owning. That is a fact. If you are a world traveller, well, it's a real treat and saves you some cash when you feel like travelling, but can instead throw in this movie. Filmed in over twenty different countries, this film is guaranteed to blow you away by the beautiful sequences and montages. Film tricks abound as the cinematographer uses pixilation in a refreshing way. The plot, or lack thereof (this is a visual film with only music, no words) primarily follows a look at nature, humans in nature, war and disaster, and a return to nature. But the movie is so much more than mere words can describe. (By the way, a fair part of the movie is filmed in Japan!)
The French director was the cinematographer of Koyanisquatsi.

知人が観ての感想がこれなんですが…正に彼女は、
BARAKA 的としか形容するしかない何か…を体験したに違いないのだ。

教えたくないけど教えたい・・私のＢＥＳＴ

同じ地球上に生きている様々な国の人間の「今」という時を切り取った映画。もう１０年近く前のこと、有楽町のスバル座でこの映画を見て、衝撃をうけて動けなかった。台詞のない、音と映像の世界。しかし、それ以外にも映画の中に存在する時間が強烈なメッセージを発している。ＮＹを流れるイエローキャブの空撮。バリのケチャックダンスの、人々の輝いた目。ゴミ山の中に暮らす人々。東京のラッシュアワー。疲れて電車の中で眠りこける人々。豊かさとは何か、貧しさとは何か、生きていると言うことはなにか、そんなことを、この映画は無言で語りかけているように思える。ずっとほしくてたまらなくて、ようやくこのビデオを手に入れたときのうれしさといったらなかった。これから先、どんなに沢山の映画に出会っても、おそらく私の中でこれが一位の座を譲ることはないと思う。教えたくないけど、知って欲しい、そんなＦＩＬＭです。
